Ontario iGaming Market Set To Launch in April
After several delays, a new launch date has been set for Ontario's legal online gambling market. Slots players in the province will have access to the best Ontario slots sites from 4 April, the announcement from iGaming Ontario has confirmed.
“Consumers can be assured that companies who successfully enter the new Ontario market will have met rigorous standards of game and operator integrity, fairness, player protections, and social responsibility, allowing all players to play with confidence,” Executive Director of iGaming Ontario Martha Otton said in a statement.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has had control over all regulated online gaming in the province for over two decades, but the Ontario government decided to open the doors to private casino operators back in April 2019. iGaming Ontario was created in 2021 to manage this new market.
Initially, the market was set to open in December 2021, but several delays have hampered the process, including questions about the level of decision-making power in the hands of private operators, regulating gaming practices and the framework of the regulatory bodies. Our article on Ontario iGaming Market Launch Delays highlights some of these issues. The province is now ready to allow new operators to offer services to players in Ontario.
Canadian Gambling Association President and CEO Paul Burns said, "The move to establish a regulated iGaming market in this province will ensure that the people of Ontario have access to safe and legal gambling options online while encouraging investment and job creation in Ontario. We finally have the opportunity to safeguard the economic benefits that will start to flow to licensed gaming operators and the provincial government.”
This is great news for slots players in Ontario, who will have access to the best slot games in Canada, at a variety of safe, regulated online casino sites.
