Employment Opportunities are Booming Ahead of Ontario Gambling Regulation

Benjie Levy, COO of TheScore told the Toronto Star: “We’ve hired 214 people across North America, including 137 in Canada since the start of 2021. Nearly 40 per cent of our workforce in Canada is in high-tech jobs. We’re building our sports betting platform, working on new iterations of our media app and our back-end systems. On the editorial side, we love that we can hire fresh, just out of (journalism) school reporters.”

TheScore partnered with Penn National recently, and has not been sitting idle when it comes to building up its pool of local talent! It's not the only company that's hiring though.

PointsBet Canada has filled 13 new positions in its new Toronto office since it was opened a few months ago.

“If this market achieves like we expect it will, it’s easy to imagine a few hundred PointsBet employees,” said PointsBet exec Scott Vanderwel. “We’re building a full company here in Canada, not just a marketing arm.”

Although AGCO said that the regulation process may be delayed from the end of 2021 to the first quarter of 2022, there is nothing lagging in the employment sphere! This bodes well for the future of the industry in the province, and we look forward to exploring the best slots sites in Ontario!
